Bolivar
Bolivar cigars are renowned for their robust character and rich history, named after the South American liberator Simón Bolívar. The brand was founded in Cuba in 1902 by José F. Rocha, quickly establishing a reputation for full-bodied cigars.
Today, two distinct lines of Bolivar cigars exist: the Cuban-made Habanos S.A. version, produced in various factories across Cuba, and the Dominican Republic-made version for the U.S. market, crafted by General Cigar Co. The Cuban Bolivar is celebrated for its intense, earthy, and spicy profile, often featuring notes of leather, coffee, and dark chocolate, with a consistently strong body.
Product Lines
- Bolivar (Cuban): Known for its powerful, complex flavors. Iconic vitolas include the Belicosos Finos (a torpedo with notes of earth and spice) and the Royal Coronas (a robusto offering a medium-to-full body with hints of cedar and pepper). These are typically wrapped in dark, oily Cuban wrappers.
- Bolivar (Dominican - U.S. Market): Crafted to deliver a similar bold experience, often utilizing Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. This line provides a full-bodied smoke with notes of dark cocoa, espresso, and a peppery finish, appealing to those who appreciate strength and depth.
