If you’re on the fence about getting this, go for it now! It’s perfect straight from the jar—the moisture content is spot on, neither too wet nor too dry around the edges. The cut is soft and mild, easy to pull apart. The aroma, in my opinion, has fruity notes (like fig or red berries), along with nutty brown chocolate and a sweetness that almost makes me want to chew it straight from the jar. It smells amazing, and it’s not even an aromatic. The smoke is fantastic, very consistent (especially if cut or rubbed out properly), and it burns evenly. It has a long burn time, around 40 minutes to an hour. The flavor is mildly rich, with different notes coming through as you smoke, especially after a few relights—though I didn’t feel the need to relight even after tamping the ash. It’s perfect for springtime. This jar of Back Down South is a solid 10/10 for me.
