Cigar Newbie Guide
A premium cigar is made from three main parts:
The wrapper, binder, and filler.
The wrapper is the outer tobacco leaf and contributes to the cigar’s appearance and character. The binder holds everything together, while the filler is made from tobacco leaves that help determine the cigar’s strength, flavor, and overall profile.
At 70Cigars, strength ranges from Mild and Mild+ to Medium, Medium+, and Full. Lighter strengths are generally smoother and easier to approach, while higher strength levels offer more intensity and body.
For beginners, Mild, Mild+, or Medium is usually a comfortable place to start.
Note: Strength can refer to nicotine
intensity, body, flavor intensity, or a combination of these, depending on the
source.
The size and shape of a cigar is called its Vitola. Common options include Robusto, Toro, Corona, Churchill, and Gordo, each
offering a different size and smoking time.
Keep in mind: a bigger cigar does not always mean a stronger cigar.
Cigar wrappers range from:
Claro / Connecticut Shade, Natural / Colorado, Maduro, to Oscuro.
Lighter wrappers are often smoother, while darker wrappers can be richer—but wrapper color alone does not determine strength.
A clean cut helps maintain the wrapper and create a better draw.
Once cut, light evenly and enjoy at a relaxed pace.
